Easter Sunday in Stratford-upon-Avon

Our new day excursion took us to Stratford-upon-Avon last month. With a riverside market, spring blooms, and a touch of Shakespearean magic, it was the perfect way to spend Easter Sunday.

Our staff member Rachel went on the trip and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

She said: "It's a fair distance to travel in one day but really worth it. Our driver, Gareth, dropped us off in a really handy location on Windsor Street, which is just off Stratford's main high street and only a few minutes' walk from Shakespeare's Birthplace Museum.

The Birthplace Museum was my favourite visitor attraction. Just walking through so much history felt palpable, the building is extremely well-preserved and there are staff on hand in every room to give you fascinating tid-bits about Shakespeare's life - such as his father's profession which features in many of Shakespeare's works!

Shakespeare's New Place is also a must-see. Our visit began with an informative and fun talk about the history of the site and I learned so much. The gardens behind are beautiful too.

The Waterside Upmarket takes place every Sunday during Spring/Summer, which ony added to the splendid atmosphere of Easter Sunday. Alongside the market and food stalls, lots of people were sitting on the grass soaking up the sun, with live music playing, and boats racing along the River Avon. With everything else to see and do, I unfortunately didn't have time to visit Anne Hathaway's Cottage aswell - so I'll just have to come back later in the year!"
