The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway

We are pleased to return to the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway on Sunday 18th August – with just 9 seats left at the time of writing!

The excursion begins with a visit to the attractive town of Ilkley. Set amidst the stunning scenery of Wharfedale, this elegant spa town offers a range of sophisticated and specialty shops to browse. After some time here for a bite to eat, we continue north to Bolton Abbey, a ruined Abbey and Priory set in a beautiful, tranquil location along River Wharfe. We have time for a stroll through this beautiful landscape, part of the Duke of Devonshire's estate.

Our day ends with a nostalgic journey through scenic Yorkshire countryside on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, with Cream Tea served on board. A popular location for TV and filmmakers, you may recognise Embsay Station as its fictional counterpart, Hotten Station, from ITV’s Emmerdale.

Our colleague Jackie recently enjoyed a visit to the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway to take some photographs and confirm the suitability for our clients.

She said: “I absolutely love this heritage line. And despite the forecast it was still 24 degrees and sunny when we left the area at around 3pm. I had an excellent time here with my eldest daughter and I am confident that our clients will thoroughly enjoy this day out!”

The Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is a heritage railway formed in 1979 and opened in 1981. It runs four miles between the Embsay Station and Bolton Abbey Station and travels through some dramatic Dales scenery. Since then, Bolton Abbey Station has been restored to its original 1800’s style with Victorian and Edwardian carriages, with Platform 1 re-opening in 1998 and Platform 2 and 3 being reinstated at a later date.

From the Bolton Abbey Station you can enjoy a walk to the priory, set in a spectacular setting. You can also access The Strid Wood, an area of ancient woodland with lots of wonderful wildlife; and The Strid a natural wonder, where the river suddenly narrows forcing the water through at great pressure.

This excursion can be viewed and booked here.
